Our story

The Poppy Collective is a retail shop in Pacific Grove, California, and is the creation of Pacific Grove resident and Monterey County native Christy Porter. Christy grew up exploring the coast of the Monterey Bay area and Big Sur with her grandfather, Elmer. From hiking the rolling hills to gathering rocks in Big Sur, the local environment piqued her curiosity. After a long career as an Environmental Scientist for the California Environmental Protection Agency in Sacramento, Christy felt the pull to return to the Monterey Bay Area. In addition to expertise as an environmental scientist, Christy ran a medicinal herb shop in Sacramento in the mid-1990s. She is a self-taught artist and loves painting whimsical plants, animals, and naturescapes. Christy has always felt a calling to connect people with nature. By opening The Poppy Collective, she has the opportunity to share local nature with locals and tourists alike. The shop is also her art studio and a place to highlight the work of other local artists. The shop's classroom gives folks a space to explore a variety of topics, from art to aromatherapy, etc. Please come check out our space and introduce yourself!
