Caylah Jean Leas – Picking Flowers in Monte Del Lago, Gill Gallery Caylah Jean Leas’ show Picking Flowers in Monte Del Lago, brings forth her work of portraits and scenic landscapes that explore the complexities of life in small towns, mobile home communities, and nostalgic Americana. She captures the warmth and resilience of these often-overlooked spaces and the people who inhabit them in a love letter to the central California coast. Her paintings often depict the fragility of human nature and the delicate lives we cultivate. It also evokes familiar memories and showcases the beauty that can be found amidst everyday life.
Tracy Niewenhous – Sometimes the Sky, Dyke Gallery Painting is a way through which I synthesize the binaries of the human experience: heart vs. head, internal vs. external, emotion vs. aesthetic, control vs. letting go. While I typically start with a subject in mind, I try to leave room for the subject’s own expression and the viewer’s own experience.
Monterey County Historical Society – Monterey County History: Through the Lens of Pat Hathaway, Annand Gallery Mr. Pat Hathaway, raised in Pacific Grove, assembled one of California’s largest privately held image collections. Upon his return to the Monterey Peninsula in 1968 after serving in the Vietnam war, Pat immediately began collecting historical images and also focused on his own passion for photography. In fact, his first exhibition was here at the Pacific Grove Art Center in 1968 where he was also in residence. Before passing suddenly in January 2021, Pat managed to assemble over 80,000 historical images, mostly of the Monterey Peninsula, Salinas Valley & California dating to the 1850s. His love of photography was immense as evidenced by over 470,000 of his own images chronicling over five decades of daily life on the Monterey Peninsula. His collection is now preserved in the vaults of the Monterey County Historical Society.
Pallet of My Soul, Oceanscapes by Leo Neufeld, Boyer Gallery Art is a visual communication, part of a vital need to feel alive. We have seen art fractured, splintered, painted, repainted and patronized. I’m painting from life, seeking truth from the love and beauty of nature. It hasn't been a straight path, that's for sure, but it's not supposed to be when one is soul searching and challenging oneself to strive for perfection.
Big Sur Charter School – FLUID, Small Halls The 3rd-8th grader students of Big Sur Charter School were challenged to create a piece of art that communicates the meaning of fluid.
