An intimate visual journey into Monterey Bay’s kelp forests—where water, light, and movement become art. Pacific Grove, CA — 

Metamorphosis is a new exhibition by nature and underwater photographer Joseph (Joe) Platko, unveiling the hidden world of Monterey Bay's kelp forests through surreal, mirrored, and abstract imagery. This one-night event invites guests to experience the ocean in a way rarely seen—through the transformation of kelp, light, and motion into fine art. 

Featuring photographs captured while free diving along the Central Coast, Metamorphosis shifts beyond traditional underwater photography. Using long exposure, natural currents, and symmetrical composition, Platko turns kelp into wings, water into silk, and light into geometry. The result is a contemplative study of change—organic, graceful, and deeply emotive. Joe Platko, based in Marina, California, whose work has been published by BBC, National Geographic, The New York Times, and California Academy of Sciences. He serves as Operations Manager and workshop instructor at Bradley Print & Photo and is an ambassador for Huish Outdoors. 

The exhibition will feature live music, refreshments, and an opportunity to meet the artist. Fine art prints will be available for purchase.
